The file contains papers mainly relating to the intention of the Government of Iraq to form a small river fleet.

The papers mostly consist of the following: copies of correspondence between Robert Anthony Eden, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and Archibald Clark Kerr, HM Ambassador to Iraq, and between Kerr and George William Rendel, Head of the Eastern Department of the Foreign Office; a copy of a letter from Sidney Hill Phillips of the [British] Admiralty to the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs; an India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. Political Department minute paper; and an extract from the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran.
