Letter regarding accounts of the situation in Persia, and expressing regrets over the lack of prompt action by the Government (of Persia) which prevented sufficient grain being brought into the country which could have prevented the great misery there now.
The letter also reports on Afghanistan affairs including Yakoob Khan [Mohammad Yaqub Khan]'s success at Herat; the movements of the Persian Frontier Force; Russian attempts to secure communication routes from Russia proper to Bokhara; and William Francis Prideaux being offered the vacant position at Gwadur [Gwadar] as well as Merewether's thoughts on him
