The file concerns the registration of documents by the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. , Bahrain.

The papers consist of correspondence between those applying to have documents registered and the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. , Bahrain. Most of the correspondence is from oil companies, particularly the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO). The documents submitted for registration are principally certificates for shipments of oil, cylinders, and equipment, but also include leases, powers of attorney, passport applications, certificates of employment, registrations of company name, and customs declarations.

The Arabic language content of the file consists of two letters only.

The last item of correspondence in the file is dated 23 February 1946; the closing date in the date range is supplied by an entry in the notes on folio 375.

Arrangement

The papers are mainly arranged in chronological order from the front to the rear of the file, except where enclosures of an earlier date are filed after their relevant covering letter, and terminate in a set of notes (folios 342-375). However, folios 335-341, dated February 1944, are out of chronological order, as they follow papers dated 1946. Circled serial numbers in crayon and ink (red for incoming, blue for outgoing correspondence), which occur throughout the file, refer to entries in the notes.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: the main foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the front cover with 1, and terminates at the inside back cover with 376; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side of each folio. An additional mixed foliation/pagination sequence is also present in parallel between ff 1-375; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled.
