an interdepartmental conference to consider afresh the whole question of the
defence of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company’s oil-fields and pipe-line in
Arabistan, in the various eventualities which may arise.
As yon are aware, these interests have been exposed more than once to
immiueni danger, and no authoritative decision has yet been reached as to
what military measures should be taken in their defence. r J he views expressed
by the local military and political authorities are conflicting, and Mr.
Chamberlain considers that it rests with His Majesty’s Government to decide
between them. If the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty concur with
him that the question should be examined at an interdepartmental con
ference, I am to ask that they will be good enough to nominate a representative
or representatives. It is suggested that the conference should be held at this
Office at the earliest date that can be arranged.
