General map of the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and surrounding territories, including Southern Arabistan, Kuwait, the Province of Hasa, part of Nejd, Bahrain and Qatar (not marked). The map includes major places, and gives some indication of relief.
The map was sent by the Kuwait Oil Company to the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. on 14 January 1935 (IOR/L/PS/12/3812, folio 40) and was one of two maps used by the company's negotiators in connection with the Kuwait oil concession. The negotiations resulted in the signing of the commercial agreement of 23 December 1934 between the company and the Shaikh of Kuwait. The other map, a large scale map of Kuwait (IOR/L/PS/12/3812, folio 58) has been catalogued as part of the previous file in this series (IOR/L/PS/12/3811, f 410).
