Persian Government Departments. In pursuance of instructions from His
Majesty s Minister His Majesty’s Vice-Consul replied verbally that the Officer
Commanding, South Persia Rifles, found the present system convenient.
Recruiting for the South Persia Rifles has been exceedingly brisk, numbers of
recruits of good quality having come in of their own accord from Shahr-i-Babak
and elsewhere.
Cholera has appeared at Eawar. A quarantine station has been established
at bar-i-Asiab, seven farsakhs from Kerman.
Major Lorimer left Kerman on the 15th October, leaving
temporarily in the hands of Mr. Skrine, I.C.S.

In spite of some previous anxiety, Muharram passed off quietly with the
exception of one unimportant fight between two processions.
The road between Kerman and Yezd is reported safe.
Mekran Coast.
Early in the month it was reported that Sahib Khan, the brother and murderer
of Islam Khan, had m his turn been murdered by one of Islam Khan’s slaves It
became known later that he had only been shot at and wounded. He is now
reported to have recovered.
ARABIA.
Muscat.
A meeting was held at Nizwa, at which all the Shaikhs of Oman were present.
The conference was adjourned pending the arrival of Shaikhs Nasir bin Hamid
and Ham yar bin Nasir.
His Highness the Sultan informed the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. on the 5th November that
he had received a letter from his Wali at Sur stating that the two sections of the
Jenebah of Sur were fighting and that there was fear of other factions joining the
strife. After consultation with the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and the Senior Naval Officer
15 askaris were despatched with Seyyid Hamud bin Faisal to Sur in “ Screw
Tug. 7.”
Visits were exchanged with Rear Admiral Wake and General Douglas on
the 12th and 13th November.
Price of dollars Rs. 212 per cent.
Bahrain.
On the 22nd October 199 rounds of ammunition were zeized from a Persian who
said he had bought them from a Bedouin of Najd for Rs. 30.
Mr. H. St. J. Philby and Colonel Cunliffe Owen arrived on the 13th November
and left next day for Najd via Ojair.
Koweit and Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates. .
