The Kowait Chief with some twenty craft still remained in attendance on the
Tnvhith commander who had collected his carriage and resolved to move to
wards Lahsa on the 23rd June : whether he carried his intention into effect or
not, I am as yet uninformed. . ^ ^
10 On the 26th June I returned to Bushire in Her Majesty s ship Bull-
finch and submitted the subjoined telegram :
« Foreign Secretary’s telegram. I have visited Bahrein and given Chief
assurances as instructed. Chief strictly neutral, and all quiet. I have visited
also Kuteef Arab sea contingent of Turkish expedition, estimated 300 craft,
have now returned to their homes. Turkish force 3,000 strong with 1,500
Arab land contingent and nine guns were to move inland for Lahsa on 23rd.
Letters from Saood to Bahrein Chief are to effect that he had again beaten
Abdoollah and received surrender of capital Riadh. Saood s present position
not known Hugh Bose with Assistant Resident and Magpie are cruizing
between Kuteef and p^arl banks with head quarters at Bahrein. Bullfinch has
hrouoht me across to Bushire. She will carry provisions, &e., back to Bahrein
with "request that one vessel may continue to cruize between Kuteef and Bah
rein pearl banks and other vessel along pirate coast. Hugh Bose to be avail
able for communications and miscellaneous requirements. Cholera prevalent
at Bahrein and Kuteef coast. Bahrein Chief attacked but recovered. Matters
satisfactory down to date.”
11. Bullfinch will return to Bahrein with the senior naval officer after
the arrival of next mail steamer from Bombay on the 7th.
.12. His Excellency in Council will gather from my separate letter^ sent
by this opportunity, that I have communicated to

and instructions of the Government of India concerning the movements of
of Her Majesty’s ships, and the observance of our obligations. Every other
source of information has likewise been freely placed at the disposal of the
senior naval officer.
13. Referring to the telegrams now noted* received from the Secretary to
* Colonel Bume’s telegrams dated 17 th the Government of India in the Military Depart-
and 22 nd June mi. ment, I would remark that I have communicated
these to the senior naval officer, Captain Lodder, who informs me that he has
ordered the Commander of Lynx to rendezvous at Angaum Telegraph Station,
in order that he may ascertain if there be any fresh orders from the Admiral.
14. Government are aware that since my return to Bushire, the British

consequent on this discovery, are submitted in a separate letter* going by this
