5. Another important effect of the fall of Baghdad is the
heavy blow thus dealt on the popularity enjoyed in the Camp
by the pro-German party in Turkey, namely the Union and
Progress Party. I li&vo heard several civilians such as
judges, governors and muftis actually curse the Turkish
Grand Vizir, Tala*at Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. and the ~ar Minister, Enver Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. .
Many nov? realise and say that Turkey should have avoided this
war.
6. Another effect is the creation of pro-British sentiments
in some of the younger Civilian ox-officials who have lost all
hope in Turkey and desire to ho sheltered by the British
Government. This is also truo of some of the older Civilians
who come from Syria.
7. Merchants who are deported from occupied territory, vith
fow excejp .ions, received the news most gladly.
8. Christian Prisoners of T.ar, without any exception are
rejoicing at the victory and eagerly await the fall of Mosul
when they can then be certain of the safety of their families.
9. The Jewish Prisoners of : .ar are extremely cautious and
never allow their sentiments to betray them.
