attitude seems desirable because of British responsibilities for
combating the spread of propaganda south?/ards.
there is some obscurity about the relations between the
Bolsheviks and the Persian Government. Travellers who cannot get
passports for return to their interests in Bussia talk abayfe of
demanding subsistence allowance for the pefiod of their detentior
in Meshed. Moreover, travellers arriving in Bussia from Persia
are, according to reports from various sources of information,
arrested and deported to Tashkent.
Khudo Verdi with a party of nineteen others, which included
his brother Allah Verdi, arrived in Meshed on the 24th April
escorted by gendarmes. Pew of the results of his interrogatory
have been divulged but it is believed he has made statements
inculpating many others, especially among official circles. It
is expected that he and his brother will be executed.
A very reliable informant writes to ssy that on the appre
hension of Khudo Verdi certain persons of the Kuchan district
were anxious to have him killed while en route to Meshed for they
feared he would of his own volition, or would be constrained to
make certain revelations before the authorities at Meshed. These
plots were frustrated by dispositions on the part of the
gendarme officer escorting him. The correspondent goes on to
say that of the material delivered to Khudo by the Bolsheviks
last summer 25 rifles and £5,000 S.A.A. were given by him to
Taj Muhammad Khan — now Deputy Governor of ^uchan — to Veli
Khan, and to Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, all petty chiefs of that
distriet.At the same time Khudo entrusted most of his ready
money to Taj Muhammad Khan who, of course, is a Kurd like him
self. The truth of the statement that Khudo distributed Bolshevik
arms and ammunition among hAfi Kurd friends is corroborated by
the fact that it transpired after his flight to Rusria that the
Bolsheviks were incensed with him for doing away with what
they regarded as their property, though at the time the names
of the recipients did not transpire.
