A treatise in Persian on the lawfulness of music, written by Muḥammad ibn Jalāl Riz̤avī (محمد بن جلال رضوى), in 1028/1618-19 (f. 2v, line 11). The text, also entitled Risālah-yi dar aqwāl-i fuqahāʼ dar samāʻ-i alḥān (رساله در اقوال فقهاء در سماع الحان, f. 2r), discusses the opinions of the great Sunni legists and of the most celebrated Sufis for and against listening to music. It concludes with a khātimah (f. 13v) on the proper rules to be observed in the practice of sacred music.

نغمه سپاس بى قياس مخصوص خداوند بنده نواز يست كه ارباب عشق را حالات

عليه موهبت نمود و اصحاب صدق را مقامات سنيه كرامت فرمود...

Ends (f. 15r, lines 19-20):

...شعر وكل لهم سؤل ودين ومذهب

ووصلكم سؤلى وديني هواكم وأنتم من الدنيا مرادي وهمتي منائي مناكم واختياري رضاكم
