The item consists of copies of correspondence enclosed with letters from the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. . It concerns requests from Claudius James Rich, Resident at Baghdad, and his predecessor Sir Harford Jones, for allowances to be granted to Coja Mokiel Ibn Minas [Khwaja Mikayil bin Minas Baghdadi], the residency’s interpreter, and Coja Owannes Pitcairn [Khwaja Hovhannes Paitkhim], described as Harford Jones’s former secret agent in Persia. A request is also made by Rich for a salary increase for the son of Coja Mokiel Ibn Minas, who is also an interpreter at the residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. .
