Deed of Agreement from the State of Oman (Muskat), the place of
shelter, under the approbation of the Imaum, the Director, Syud Sultan,
(whose grandeur be eternal !) to the high and potent English Company,
(whose greatness be perpetuated !) as comprehended in the following
Articles :—
Article I.
From the intervention of the Nuwab Etmandood DuolaMirza Mehdy
Ali Khan Bahadoor Hushmunt Jung, never shall there be any deviation
from this Kuolnamah.
Article II.
From the recital of the said Nuwab, my heart has become disposed
to an increase of the friendship with that State, and from this day forth,
the friend of that Sirkar is the friend of this, and the friend of this
Sirkaris to be the friend of that Sirkar ; and in the same way the enemy
of this is to be the enemy of that.
Article III.
Whereas frequent applications have been made, and are still making,
by the French and Dutch people, for a factory An East India Company trading post. , i. 6. a place to seat them
selves in, either at Muskat or Bunder Abbas, or at the other ports ot
this Sirkar, it is therefore written, that whilst warfare shall continue
between the English Company and them, never shall, from respect to
the Company 's friendship, be given to them throughout all my territories
a place to fix or seat themselves in, nor shall they get even groun
to stand upon, within this State.

The volume contains an abstract of contents on p. iii, a detailed list of contents on pp. vii-xx, an alphabetical index on pp. xxi-xxvii, and a list of maps etc on p. xviii.

Physical characteristics

Pagination: two separate pagination sequences are present in the volume. The first sequence (pp. i-xviii) commences at the first page and terminates at the list of maps (p. xviii). A second pagination sequence then takes over (pp. 1-688), commencing at the title page and terminating at the final page. Both these pagination sequences are printed, with additions in pencil, and the numbers are found at the top (left, right or centre) of each page.

The fold-outs in this volume were not paginated by the publisher. As a result, these have been foliated using the nearest page number. For example, the fold-out attached to p.51 has been numbered as 51A.
