Department of Revenue,

Sir,
W ith reference to your letter No. 127 of the 20th February last, I am
directed to say that, in the opinion of His Excellency the Governor General in
Council, a Manual of Agriculture, for general use throughout India, would be
of little (if any) practical utility in the present state of education among the
agricultural population of the country, but that an elementary work of the
kind, carefully compiled with reference to local requirements, might be of use
in schools in the agricultural districts; and I am to suggest that you might
encourage in any way you consider best, the production of such a work for the
use of pupils in the schools in Ajmere.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient servant,
Secretary to the Oovernment oj India.
Calcutta, the Sth April 1874.
