Correspondence, telegrams and lists relating to prisoners and witnesses in both the case of attempted poisoning of Colonel Robert Phayre, and other cases which were been investigated at the time of the Gaekwar, Malharrao's arrest. Matters discussed include arrangements for the confinement and surveillance of prisoners, discussions about those individuals who could be released on bail, and medical assesments of prisoners in confinement suffering from illnesses.

The correspondence is between Sir Lewis Pelly; Freeman Henry Jackson, Assistant Resident at Baroda; George Edwin Seward, Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. Surgeon at Baroda; Andrew Richard Scoble, Advocate General of Bombay; Frank Henry Souter, Commissioner of Police at Bombay on Special Duty; Thomas George Baring, Second Baron Northbrook, Viceroy of India; and Charles Umpherston Aitchison, Foreign Secretary, Government of India.

Foliation: The file has been foliated using a pencil number enclosed in a circle located in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. of each folio.

Binding: The contents of the file were originally tied together using pink ribbon. The ribbon has been removed, to protect the letters and papers, and placed in a plastic sleeve at the back of the file (folio 82). The plastic sleeve may cause some loss of sharpness to the digital image of the binding.
