Letter enclosing a note from Edwin Arnold (no longer enclosed) and supporting Arnold's application to go to India.

The letter goes on to acknowledge receipt of a letter from Lord Lytton regarding the Western Frontier and the Northern States and that his leave is due to expire and to propose that he return to India in June 1878 by mail steamer.
