Letter, marked private, regarding an ongoing situation between Pelly and the Home Government, relating to the slave trade, and citing a letter from Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere to Lord Northbrook (Thomas George Baring) on the matter.
The letter goes on to express Aitchison's hopes that William Gladstone (Prime Minister of Great Britain) will soon be removed from office; an envoy from Cabul [Kabul] who is still at Simla after several weeks; the likelihood that the Chief Commissionership of Assam will be offered to General Richard Harte Keatinge; and news of recent engagements.
