The letter is instructing the Resident to report on the proceedings of the Chief of Shunas (also spelt Shinas and Sheenas in this item), and to make a certain adjustment in the Military Department.

One enclosure; translated substance of a letter from the Native Agent Non-British agents affiliated with the British Government. at Muscat to the Persian Secretary dated 8 May 1839.

It reports that Saud bin Muttuck, claiming to act on behalf of Khaled al Suood [Amīr Khālid bin Sa'ud], has demanded the assistance of the Governors of Muscat, and the payment of tribute. It further includes details on advances made to two corporals (M McNally and E Stapleton) in order to acquire provisions at Muscat.
