Tadmor. Cross a saddle (alt. 1,575 ft.) between the Jebel
Senayeh. and Jebel ed-Dalanreh.
Track by the high ground {Bou 58 b) branches off here.
Abu Fawaris (alt. 1,410 ft.), well in a basin surrounded
by hills of respectable size.
Cross a low saddle.
About here apparently the track leaves that to Qaryatein
{Route 54 ii).
Leave the plain and enter a defile near the ruins of
Khirbet ed-Dahireh. Pass 6-8 summits to 1.
Hajar ed-Duhur ruins, alt. 1,870 ft.
Khirbet el-Hanureh, about 2 m. to r. of route. Deep
ravines. To E. the slope of the Jebel et-Tiyas culmi
nates in an abrupt crest of 2,560 ft.
Ehirbet el-Q a'ah, alt. 1,870 ft. Euins. Track goes along
a slope intersected with ravines and over a small saddle.
El-Ferklus, spring. The water is reported to be very
unpleasant and full of infusoria and other creatures.
Remains of numerous walled terraces.
Es-Sebil ruins, with fine hewn stones. The whole region
is said to show traces of former cultivation. One

This volume is A Handbook of Mesopotamia, Volume III, Central Mesopotamia with Sourthern Kurdistan and the Syrian Desert (Admiralty War Staff Intelligence Division, January, 1917), covering the Tigris and Euphrates from Baghdad and Fellūjeh [Fallujah] to Mosul and Meskeneh [Maskanah], the Lesser Zāb, the country east of the Tigris towards the Persian frontier, and the routes running westward from the Euphrates valley across the Syrian Desert. The volume was prepared on behalf of the Admiralty and War Office, and appears to be based on official and unofficial publications and maps which are cited in a bibliographical section in the volume. This volume was supplemented with corrections and additions in June 1918 (see IOR/L/MIL/17/15/41/5).
The volume includes a note on confidentiality, a title page, 'Note', 'Abbreviations'. There is a page of 'Contents' which includes the following sections:
