The letter is an acknowledgement by Newnham of Stannus's previous correspondence, which is not included in the volume. Newnham writes that the Governor in Council approves of Stannus's proceedings on the Piratical Coast, and is highly satisfied with the reconciliation effected by Stannus between Sooltaun Ben Suggur [Sultan bin Saqr] and Shykh Tannoon [Shaikh Tanhun bin Shakbut].
