Letter regarding affairs in Muscat including Merewether's opinions on the problems caused by Sir John Lawrence not having adopted clearer policies with regard to supporting Torkee [Turki bin Said] and Muscat; and news of Azan bin Ghes [Azzan bin Qais] having been defeated in battle.

The letter also discusses recent affairs in Gwadur [Gwadar] between Shekh Nusseer [Sheikh Nasir] and Dahoo and Edward Charles Ross's excellent handling of them which had prevented a serious incident from occuring as well as informing Pelly that copies of both Merewether and Ross's reports on the incident are being sent to him.

The letter goes on to give news of Kelat, including Robert Phayre's actions there which have been causing problems and Merewether's decision to forbid him from interfering there further.
