About this item

Content

Letter regarding the Wahabee [Wahhabi] Muskat [Muscat] dispute and the involvement of the Shaikh of Bahrain in wishing to aid Muskat in protecting the sea ports on the Arab coast from the Wahabees.

The letter goes on to inform Government that the Sultan of Muskat is sending ships to blockade Wahabee ports and that, as predicted, the Shaikh of Bahrain has reneged on his agreement to provide ships and support owing to his existing agreement with the Wahabees.

The letter proceeds to outline numerous complaints relating to tyranny and extortion which have been brought against the Shaikh and to raise ongoing issues being faced by British Indian subjects in Bahrain as well as to outline actions he has taken including shipping those affected and their goods to Bassidore.

An addendum to the letter reports that the Bahrain authorities have since settled the outstanding complaints and have expressed a desire to be free of Wahabee influence. The addendum also informs Government that the Shaikh of Bahrain's war Bughla has sunk following a storm but it is hopeful she can be recovered.
