Letter regarding Captain Henry Byam Abbott being gazetted as Assistant Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. Third Class; Aitchison looking into whether or not there is a further vacancy; and Lord Northbrook's desire to appoint a civilian to replace Captain Victor Edward Law.
A postscript to the letter informs Pelly that Colonel Thomas Dennehy will be gazetted as soon as his papers come through.
