Letter regarding an enclosed letter from Colonel William Howell Beynon regarding suggestions made by the Maharaja of Jeypore [Jaipur] (Sawai Ram Singh II) for co-operative securing of borders and handling of border criminals with neighbouring states, which has Pelly's approval, and which he believes could be applied to the remaining states of Rajputana [Rājasthān] and asking for the Foreign Secretary's considerations on it.

- Letter 21/1 J of 20 January 1874 from Colonel William Howell Beynon to Colonel Lewis Pelly, submitting a proposal from the Jeypore [Jaipur] Durbar A public or private audience held by a high-ranking British colonial representative (e.g. Viceroy, Governor-General, or member of the British royal family). regarding the mutual extraction of border criminals with neighbouring states and discussing previous attempts at similar agreements and why they had not worked. The letter also includes a list of the types of crimes that they would intend to apply the proposal to, proposals for the handling of minor crimes, and suggestions for clear rules for the above. The verso The back of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'v'. of folio 168 contains pencil notes, written by Pelly regarding the letter, which are his draft notes for letter No.69 of 1874.

Conservation: The correspondence was original tied together with red & yellow wool, which was removed in order to enable the letters to be read, and has been placed in a plastic sleeve. The correspondence, and original wool tie have instead been placed in an acid-free paper folder to keep them together.
