The history of my entry into the Abu Muaa Oxide oonoern
was as followc:-
I had been for eorno yeare conn jo ted <vith the trad® in
Oxide frors liorisuz in assooiation with isakhoda Ali Ahmed Sal eh,
in whose name the oonceeeion then .vaa. iia, however, lost the
conoeasion and then in ooxiaultation with me, he set to work
to obtain a conoesalon for extracting Abu Musa Oxide, having
first made a trial ahipment. it was Hakhoda Ali firat
started the Abu Musa raining; iiaasan Saraolyeh knew nothing aboati
the Oxide trade until NaJchoda Ali introduced him to it* The
latter had at this time a very bad name with the local author
ities and in ooEiraercial ciroleo in the uulf Porta and ao he
found it convenient to work through iiaaaans Gamely eh.
After securing the Abu Musa Concession, the parties
thought it would be to their advantage to bring me into it
with a view to my arranging the shipmenta to -urope and else
where, and so I came into it. i.uihoda All was the moving
apirit in ths acquiring of the Oonoeaaion, Hassan Sameiyeh
was only used as a screen. The former waB in charge of the
minin., work and always complained greatly of the obiJtructive-
ness of Abdullah Sameiyeh and his father unsaan, and their
ignorance of matters connected with the Oxide trade. Owing,
however, to his own state of bankruptcy ^uxhoda All could
not taxe a prominent part xn the jonoern, and ao Abdullah
and Hassan gradually began to dominate it; .iaxhoda Ali managed
the work on the Island, I was expected to manage the sales
and shipment to iiurope, and Hassan acted as corre aponding
member of the Company.
