The Third of June, which was the Day appointed for the
Grand Senior's departure for Polan the Ambaliador went be
times in the Morning to the Camp to the auarters of the
Grand Vitier, with a defign to oblige the Haughty Mmifter
to grant him that Audience which he had refus d him ever fince
his Arrival, and to receive the Letter from Monfieur Lyonne.
He cafry'd with him alfo M. d'Hervien, to the end that as he
was the Perfon that brought it, he fliould deliver it into his
Hands. But the Vi%ier was not then in the Camp, being gone
to Convoy the Sultanefs, Mother to the to her
firft Lodging. Which conftrain d the Ambatfador to go to
the Chancellors Quarters, where he waited feven compleat
Hours, fometimes in one Tent, fometimes in another, becaufe
the Camp was then juft upon Diflodging. At length a little
after High Noon, the News came that the was
come to the City. Whither the Chancellor went to him, and
told him. That the Ambaffador of ftaid in the Camp
to Kifs his Hands, and to know his laft Commands. The F/-
%ier order'd him to tell his Excellency, That he needed not to
give himfelf the trouble of waiting, for that he was then ta
king leave of his Wife, his Mother, and his Family, and ftiould
not return to the Camp till Night: and therefore that it would
be fufficient for him to leave only one of his Interpreters, to
whom he would give his Anfwer. Which was. That
impart the AmbaJJadors Demands Grand Signior
Divan; but that he could Hot do
by reafon that tBe Army was upon
time, his Excellency might return Conftantinople,
await the Grand SigniorV ^efolntion. rvould
time write to the Caimacan to grant
the Harbour; and for what rema
he confided in the Faith and Honour
have Jiopp'd hint at Adrianople,
without leave.
At the fame time the Interpreter had alfo Orders to know
the Grand Vi%iers Commands touching certain particular Af
fairs relating to Trade in feveral places of the Which
he order'd to be difpatch'd the next Morning in manner and
form, as the Interpreter defir'd.
