order to fpare for no expence in confiderable Prefents to fuch
and fuch Lords. 'But,added he at the bottom,
offering any thing to that ^fcal a frime
Dog of a General of the Mufquetteers ; withal naming fome others
to whom he forbad him to make any addrefies. But by mif-
fortune the Meflenger crippl'd himfelf by the way, fo that he
could not make that haft which was requifite; by which accident
the Controller, who follow'd him clofe at the heels,overtook him
in a Caravan /eraj, or publick Inn; where finding him laid down,
and faft afleep, he would not mils fo favourable an opportunity,
but ftole from under his Head the Purfe wherein his Letters
were. He read them, and carri'd them to Court, to fliew
them to thofe perfbns whom they had lb highly abus'd. Who
more enrag'd then before carri'd the Controller to his Majefty,
before whom he confirm'd the Information which had been
already given him. That the Fof had dif-
dainkilly flung away the Royal Habit which his Majefty had
lent him, laying withal thefe words, Sha-
Sephies Habits, and that he fentfor one of Habai's Veftments,
which he wore upon his return to the City. Upon which the
King highly incens'd, feveral times repeated the words Gidi, and
Segh or Dog, and Scoundrel; with feveral other more outrage
ous and bitter Expreffions, ufual among the greateft Peribnages
in that Country, who think it no fliame to utter them upon all
occafions, and before any perlbns whatlbever. Prefently the
King fent to arreft the Vazjers Agent, and at the lame time
difpatch'd to his Mafter a Chapar or Courrier extraordinary to
arreft him, and confifcate all his Goods.
The General of the Mufquetteers not content with this, the
next Morning inform'd the King, that this Faster had been
High Steward to Imaan-i\ouli-l\aan } that famous Prince, ho-
nour'd with lb many Encomiums, and who is reported in the
Life of Habat the Great to have wrought fomany Miracles, be-
lides that he was Captain General of all hub ass Armies, I fay,
he inform'd the King that this Vaster was entrufted with all
lmaan-I\ouli-I\aaris Jewels, and yet he would never dilcover
to Sefie the I. where that Prince had hid them before he was
put to death; protefting he knew nothing of the matter. Which
was a vifible piece of knavery, fince there could be no other
perfon in the world who could know that fecret but himlelf;
and therefore there was no way to conftrain him to tell the
truth but by force. Which Incentives lb wrought upon the
Young Prince that he difpatch'd a fecond Courrier with Orders
