The letter is enclosing a copy of the Resident's communication to Captain Prior (see ff. 149v-150) in order to inform the Bombay Government of recent 'pirate activity' in the Gulf. It notes that the Captain has agreed to undertake a cruise as far as Muscat, then return to Bushire, for the purposes of gathering intelligence, and as a deterrent.
