Eoad keeps over tlie level plain between
the two arms of the Kariin, here well
cultivated (wheat and barley). There
are no trees or wells in this country.
The tableland dips to the rivers.

Ground undulates and rises gently.
Ground suitable for a camp; water
from the rivers, of excellent quality, but
muddy ; no firewood on the spot. A strong

Road, a surface track, less formed than
that of yesterday. This fine plain lying

tent, i.e., 2 or 3 miles long in a north-east
and south-west direction and a mile broad,

huts of mud and straw occupied by Arab
families. It is said to be 3 farsakhs
from Band-i-Kir and 5 from Shustai.
There are here the ruins of an old mud redoub
Road strikes the river and skirts it,
following a very bad path along its inner
bank. This fine soil grows most luxuri
ant thistles. No traffic seen on the river.
