My dear Fowle,
^ A T A K •
You will, I think, be interested to learn our
present position with regard to negotiations in ^atar.
The Shaikh has made it plain that he does not want
to comiaence negotiations until after Ramadhan, and to confirm
his intentions he has left for a tour of his territory and
also announced that he will spend the fast at an inconvenient
spot in theaesert. Our view is that he is waiting to get a
line from Kuwait before he commences business with us.
He have already made tne house in habitable,
and a geological survey party will have commenced operations.
I am now sending Mylles for a short visit to ^atar.
He will see the survey party, establish relations with the
leading inhabitants and if possicle pay courtesy visits on the
Shaikh.
Mylles should leave here about the end of next week,
most p'-oba^ly by tug, and it occured to me that you might
like to see him. If so will you kindly telegraph and I will
arrange for the tug to call at Bushire en route.
I need hardly say that we should be very & rateful for
any rdvice and assistance .you are able to give kylles.
