The letter is forwarding a copy of his letter to Neil Benjamin Edmonstone of the same date (see f. 60-60v) and alludes to a packet which is en route to Calcutta, which has been left open so it may be examined by the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. . It also includes a request for two cruizers to convey intelligence for the next quarter; it further notes that the Resident will retain Samuel Manesty's cruiser the HCC Teignmouth for whatever service he requires once it returns from Muscat.
