Ebn-i-Balkhi states in "Fars-nameh", page 113 that umar
oen Khattab, the .Khalif, sent an agent to Bahrein named Ala
Khazrami who was succeeded by Uthman ben Abi-el-As fhaghafi
who ruled over Bahrein and Oman ( j ^ )„
Colonel Hovard states (in Volume I page 259) that
during the Khali fate of Ali ben Abi Taleb from 23 to 35
Si^ra the people of Bahrein did not pay their taxes and some
tribes of than reverted to Christianity. Yaqut says in the
"Mua^am-ul-Buldan" that during the Khalifate of the Rashedin
Khalifs, Bahrein was a dependency of Iraq, (he means probably
Persia, as this country is called by the Arabs Airaq^i^Ajam
f ^ O S) translator) and that the Beni Umayeh Khalifs
formed one province of Oman, Bahrein and Ysiaameh { ^
The Persians made a violent revolt against the Beni umayeh
cind the Arabs and their antagonism was directed against the
Arab rale rather than the Arab religion, f^ose who in many
regions of Persia joined this revolt were called "Khavare^" am
and according to the book "Mafatih-ul-Adab" of Mirza Muhaamed
Ali Lhan Kababi, page 4, Abu FaH^dk: one of the Khavarej
succeeded in regaining Bahrein from the Bani Umayeh Khalifs
in the year 72 of the Hi^ra era# Abdul Malek ben Marvan sent
an army in the year 73 and re-captured that region but
another revolt headed by Massud ben Abi Zabib Abdi in lo5
Hi^ra resulted in the defeat of the Bahrein Arab agent and the
reign by the rebel of 19 years in Bahrein after which he
was slain by Sufyan ben Amr. in the year 151 Aghabeh ben
Salim went to Bahrein as an emissary from Kansur the Abbassifie
Khalif and occupied Bahrein killing Suleiman ben Hakim Abdi
the Governor of that islands
The year 276 records the outset of the well-known
ievolt of "Gharameteh" in Bahrein, They were the same

The impact of the discovery of oil deposits in Bahrain is discussed as is the broader international reaction to the claim. The file contains translations of several articles published in the Persian press on the topic and a translation of an article that appeared in a Dutch newspaper.

A detailed Historical Memorandum of Bahrain compiled by the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. is contained on ff. 94-118. The memorandum contains a history of Bahrain from the pre-1783 era until 1934 and includes details of the British role in the country, the numerous treaties signed by the Al Khalifa family with the British and a discussion of Turkish (Ottoman) and Persian claims to the territory.

A bound correspondence volume. Foliation starts on the first letter page (4th folio in the volume) and finishes on the last letter page (5 folios from end of volume). Pencil number in top right corner of recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. . From f 90, an inconsistent pagination system begins. Only pages with typescript are paginated. When both sides have typescript, pagination numbers are found only on even-numbered pages. There are two foliation errors: between f 14 and f 16 we have f 15A and f 15 B; between f 68 and f 70 we have f 69A and f 69B.
