Copies of official correspondence, written during Lewis Pelly's periods of absence from the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. December 1872-June 1873 whilst on a visit to Bombay to meet with the Viceroy, and subsequently being assigned to Special Duty as part of the East Coast African Special Anti-Slavery Mission.
The main recipients of the correspondence are the Secretary to Government, Political Department, Bombay; Lieutenant Colonel Edward Charles Ross, Acting Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. ; Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere, HM's Special Envoy to Zanzibar and Muscat; and various naval officers in the Gulf.
