Content

The letter relates to the recent kidnap of a Soomalee [Somali] girl by the crew of a vessel from Soor [Ṣūr], and her liberation at Muscat. Kemball’s letter includes the translated extract of a letter from Khojeh Hiskale, the British Agent at Muscat, dated 29 December 1853. In his letter Hiskale states that the Somali girl’s brother has disappeared, and his whereabouts is not known. In his covering letter, Kemball proposes that he will forward the girl to the care of Government on the next available cruizer.
