In this letter, William Bruce, Resident at Bushire, refers both to his letter of 18 May 1819 and to Government commands from 13 March 1819, the latter of which appear to have granted Bruce the indulgence of visiting the Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. . Bruce states that he will avail himself of the Government's indulgence in the early part of May 1820, by which period the military operations in the Gulf will be over and the greatest part of the force returned to India.
