About this record

Content

Letter regarding Pelly's letter from Herat about matters beyond the Indian frontier, and the attitude of indifference towards such matters which exists in India.

The letter goes on to give news from Europe including from the 'Expedition of the thousand' reporting that Naples had been taken and that the Sicilian army was within three miles of Rome; and a meeting in Warsaw of the rulers of Russia, Austria and Prussia.

The letter also reports on Lord Canning's departure from Calcutta for Hyderabad and the expectation he will be in Bombay until March or April; and both his and his brother (Malcolm Green)'s hopes of returning to England in April.

The letter also refers to an enclosed letter from Green's wife, Louisa Sophie Green, which is no longer with this letter.
