The letter is a covering letter enclosing correspondence sent from Lieutenant Tanner to Captain Mallard of 23 August 1820, concerning Sultan bin Suggar's [Saqr] desire to build forts for the protection of his territory. Henderson asks for Bruce's opinion of the request. Tanner's letter reports in detail his visit to Sharjah and his meeting there with the brother of Sultan bin Saqr, his trip to Rasulkhyma [Ra's al-Khaymah] where he inspected the damage done by British forces nearly a year previously, and his return to Sharjah, where he describes the people and activities of the town.
