Draft letter, which appears to be written to the Marquess of Salisbury, Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, in his capacity as Secretary of State for India regarding the private note he has received from Lord Northbrook which contains assurances that he can remain in England until November 1876, but offering his services if they are required before then.
The letter goes on to give Pelly's opinions on the importance of Asian affairs and their likely future impact on European politics.
The draft letter contains numerous corrections, amendments and crossings out.
