Covering note enclosing circular No.35a to 44, 26 April 1842, which may be of interest to Pelly:
Circular sent to various Political Agents and Residents in India regarding protocols, considerations and respect to be given to India Prince, and outlining when to and not to get involved with their affairs, and jurisdictions with regard to disturbances of the public peace in India. The circular was written by Thomas Herbert Maddock, Secretary to the Government of India

Conservation: The circular, folios 174-177 was originally tied together with red and yellow wool, which has been removed to enable the item to be read. The item has instead been placed in an acid-free paper folder with the wool tie placed at in a plastic sleeve at the rear of the folder.
