About this record

Content

Letter regarding the need for Highflyer to be used to blockade the ports of Katiff [al-Qatif] and Ojair [Uqair] and detailing the fort on the island of Demaun [Darin] which is at the entrance to Katiff and which an attack on would require the use of boats owing to shallow shoals there.

The letter recommends that H ighflyer proceed to Bassidore for coal and then to Lingah [Bandar-e-Lengeh] where a pilot could be picked up before proceeding to Bahrein and then travelling along the coast past Debay [Dubai], Shargah [Sharjah] and Rass-ool-Khaimah [Ra's al Khaimah] where the demonstration of a British vessel of war in the coastal waters would potentially have an excellent effect.
