Sir,
In continuation of my letter No, 55, of the 12th instant, T have the honor to report
that
Sirdar
Leader of a tribe or a polity; also refers to a military rank or title given to a commander of an army or division.
Meetah Khan, Shaook of Beyla, arrived on the IGth instant with about twenty
followers, to pay his respects to His Highness.
2. On Wednesday

Meetah Khan visited me, and the information given by a
man in his position may be considered of importance.
3. He stated that for generations past they had always looked upon the Khan of
Khelat as their Sovereign, and the Jam, whoever he might be, as his representative.
4. That when His Highness took the Government of Beyla into his own hands,
grain was at famine prices, but that the ample fall of rain this season, had relieved
them of all anxiety, and that every one was looking forward to a good and plentiful
harvest.
5. The behaviour of His Highness' Detachment was said to be most exemplary,
and that they had not caused the slightest annoyance to any one.

Meetah Khan stated that they were perfectly satisfied with the new
Government, and that Ali Khan, Jumootee, a subordinate Chief, was the only discon
tented person, but from want of sympathy and confidence in present arrangements,

Letter enclosing correspondence from Captain Charles Henry Harrison (No.66 of 1870) and Colonel Robert Phayre (No.1219 of 1870) and making the observation that had Colonel Phayre taken the time to be better acquainted with the previous history of Khelat [Kalāt] he would have had no trouble in reconciling the information General John Jacob had provided on the position of the Jam of Beyla [Bela] with the statement made in Captain Harrison's letter and that he considered there to be nothing wrong in the statement.
