The letter covers various issues and subjects, including:

  • the detention of the Tartar at Bushire;
  • the woollen trade;
  • a missing bale of cloth at Bussora [Basra];
  • a request for charcoal makers to be sent to Bombay with samples, as those from the Bushire region have an excellent reputation;
  • Jervis' admittance into the Bombay council and the order for him to leave before the monsoon;
  • vessels are sent to seek revenge against the Chaub [Banu Ka‘b] for the loss of the Fort William , the Sally , and a Company yacht.

Copied below the letter are extracts from those commands of the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. in London that relate to the Bushire Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. . The first, dated 1 June 1764, covers the following subjects:

  • the wool trade and the encouraging sales at Basra and Bushire, despite the low price fetched;
  • concern over security along the Persian littoral, with remarks about the Arab character;
  • approval of the settlement at Basra;
  • orders that no expensive building should be carried out at Bushire, a rented house is enough;
  • the appointment of John Spencer as second in council at Bombay Castle.

A further series of commands is included, dated 22 March 1765:
