of America into the war indicate that the situation is

unlikely again to become such as to disturb the communitie

subjects of the great Powers (except the ianerican
missionaries) in Bahrain,and especially before the possi
ble coming of Japanese traders.
I venture ,however,to urge that the question of
jurisdiction over the subjects of certain Arab Chiefs,
with whom Shaikh ’Isa claims to have reciprocal agree
ments in this regard,more particularly over Hasawis,
should be settled at the same time, iis you are aware,
Ohaikh ’Isa’s endeavours to deal with cases connected
with iiasawis are a constant source of friction between
him and the political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. ,and of late he has renewed
his activities in this direction; a recent case,reported
in my telegram i\o.lo-C of February 15th, 1917,was tided
over by informing Shaikh ’isa that the Government of
