TRUCIAL COAST
A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates.

On the night of the 28th December two men were dis
covered in the A.M. vr .D. wired enclosure at-Sharjah attempting
to steal a vehicle or parts. They failed to halt when
challenged and were fired upon by the guards, one man was
killed and the other escaped. The casualty is one of the
guards provided by the Sheikh and although his death is to
be regretted the action of the guard was justified.

scheme submitted to them for the simplification of the Arabic
language. The scheme aims at ensuring that ’Titten Arabic

is due to close in October, 1946.
It is to be hoped that it attracts a satisfactory
system very early indeed.
