. Electricity Department is now supplying
ciectricity for the Manager's residence in the new Automatic

built by Messrs. Cable and Wireless and has promised to
supply sufficient electricity for the working of the automatic
squired. The supply of electricity for these
installations - as indeed to the public in general - is
conditional, however, upon the continuance in operation of
two generators whose overhaul has been postponed until the

q. . i 11 } The contract of Group Captain H.P.G. Leigh, the
State Engineer, is due to expire in September and the Bahrain
Government has been looking for a successor. Mr, Donald
Brammer, formerly of Petroleum Development (Qatar), Limited,
has been engaged as the new State Engineer. Mr. Brammer
recently left for the United Kingdom on short leave and

into operation soon, some four years after Messrs. Cable and

Bahrain Government. ^ Local merchants are now complaining

thu subscribers and there is talk of boycotting the new

tne installation of a water supply system for the town of
Manamah and there is no sign yet of their completing it.

The reports, marked as secret, were sent to the Government of India, the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. , and numerous diplomatic, political, and military offices in the Middle East. Each report is numbered from 1 to 24 and covers a two week period.

The reports are divided into short sections that relate to a particular subject. Contained within the file is intelligence on the following:

  • the work of third parties in the region, such as the Bahrain Petroleum Company, Gray, Mackenzie and Co., and Petroleum Concessions Limited;
  • labour matters, especially strikes and unrest;
  • local reaction to international events such as the end of the British Mandate in Palestine and the death of Mohandas Gandhi;
  • the activities of the Royal Navy;
  • the supply of electricity, water and telecommunications;
  • aviation;
  • the work of the Middle East Anti-Locust Unit;
  • the traffic of slaves;
  • quarantine and medical matters;
  • weather and meteorological data.
