The correspondence is principally between the British Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. at Sharjah, the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. at Bahrain, and the ruling shaikhs of the Trucial Coast A name used by Britain from the nineteenth century to 1971 to refer to the present-day United Arab Emirates.   • British instructions to the Trucial shaikhs to make claims to the subsoil of the seabed beyond the three mile limit;
