The file contains telegram correspondence sent by the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. in Bahrain announcing the death of Shaikh Sir ‘Isa bin Ali Al Khalifah on 9 December 1932. The telegram was sent to the Political Agencies in the Gulf. The file contains letters of sympathy which were sent from among others, Shaikh Sultan bin Saqr, Ruler of Sharjah, the Foreign Secretary to the Government of India, and Naval Commander in Chief, in Basrah. These were all sent to the Political Agency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, headed by an agent. or to the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. and in turn the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. conveyed their contents to Shaikh Hamad bin ‘Isa al Khalifah. Shaikh Hamad wrote back to the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. and to the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. requesting to thank those who sent their letters of sympathy.
A report of the funeral procedure was also provided. The report states that flags and The Union Jack were lowered, bazaars in Muharraq and Manama were closed, and Bahrain Government offices, bank and schools were closed for three days.
