The letter is a report of a slave trading incident on the Muscat coast. The letter encloses translated extracts from a report received by the Government Agent at Muscat, Khojeh Hiskael [Khojah Hiskal], describing the detention of a bugla Large trading vessel. [ buggalow Large trading vessel. ] from Bahrain, under British colours at Muscat, which was carrying four Abyssinian female slaves via the Red Sea. Samuell Hennell writes that Lieutenant Foulerton, Commanding Officer of an East India Company schooner, did not feel authorised to take action in the detention of the bugla Large trading vessel. . Hennell is concerned that such inaction might be taken advantage of by slave traders, and writes to the Government of Bombay From c. 1668-1858, the East India Company’s administration in the city of Bombay [Mumbai] and western India. From 1858-1947, a subdivision of the British Raj. It was responsible for British relations with the Gulf and Red Sea regions. for further instructions.
