be using a name other than that by
which he was ordinarily known imme
diately before the said date.
(2a) In relation to any alien who, not
having been in the United Kingdom on
the said date, thereafter lands in the
United Kingdom, subsections (i) and
(2) of this section shall have effect as if
for any reference in those subsections
to the said date there were substituted a
reference to the day on which he first
lands in the United Kingdom after the
said date ’;
(6) subsection (4) shall have effect as if para
graph (b) thereof were omitted.
(2) No British subject who is in the United Kingdom

on the date of the coming into force of this Regulat
shall, while in the United Kingdom at any time after
that date, assume or use or purport to assume for
any purpose any name other than that by which he
was ordinarily known immediately before the said
date, unless, at least twenty-one days before the day
on which he first assumes or uses or purports to
assume that other name, he has caused to be pub
lished in the London Gazette, the Edinburgh Gazette
or the Belfast Gazette a notice specifying—
(a) his existing name in full and the change which
he proposes to make in it, and
(b) the address of his place of residence or place
of abode, if any, in the United Kingdom.
(3) In relation to any British subject who, not
having been in the United Kingdom on the date of
the coming into force of this Regulation, thereafter
lands in the United Kingdom, paragraph (2) of this
Regulation shall have effect as if for any reference in
that paragraph to the said date there were substituted
a reference to the day on which he first lands in the
United Kingdom after the said date. p*
(4) Nothing in paragraph (2) of this Regulation
shall apply in relation to—
{a) the assumption or use of any name in pursu
ance of a Royal Licence,
(6) the assumption or use of any name in conse
quence of the grant of, or succession to,
any peerage,
(c) the assumption or use by any married woman
of her husband’s name,
