This volume was marked "confidential" tut in the
letter from Mr. Butler to Sir R. Ritchie, forwarding it
from India, copy of which was sent to this Department
with the book Itself, it was stated that a public edi
tion of the work had appeared from which certain confi
dential matter had been omitted.
It has occurred to Sir E. Grey that this public
edition might provide the Company with all the informa
tion which they need and he iwould accordingly suggest
that they should, in the first place, be advised to ob
tain a copy of it.
I am accordingly to request that, if Lord Morley
concurs in this proposal, he would be good enough to
cause Sir E. Grey to be informed how the work can be
obtained in order that the necessary indications may be
given to the Company.
