'Ali al-'FaUan .—Governing Ja’arah together with Saiyid Hadi Zuwiyeh..
(2nd November 1915).
'Ali Haidar .—Deputy at Mosul. (22nd October 1915). (See Haidar).
'Ali ibn Hamud al-Subhdn .—Nominal Wakll of Hail. He is a brainless
boy under 18 but much loved by the people. His chief adviser is Sa’ad ibn
Saleh al-Subhan.
'Ali Ihsan Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. —Officer Commanding, Xlllth Army Corps. (2nd March
1916). Khalil deputed to him whole command on right bank, Tigris. (20th April
1916), He was on the General Staff in Europe and is very capable. He has
the reputation of having shot several officers with his own hand in the Caucasus
for wavering. Went with cavalry division to Khaniqin before 26th May 1916.
'Ali Isfahani .—Usually styled Shaikh-ul-’Iraqain. Sent by Turks to
Tehran to rouse Persian notables against Allies. ( 10 th December 1915).
'Ali Jenab. —Lieutenant, Cavalry, relation of Enver, A.-D.-C. to Khalil
at surrender of Kut, April 1916. Apparently a hard drinker.
'Ali Jindil. —Shaikh, brother of Ealaiyah, looted our mahailas off
’Awaineh ( 12 th October 1915). We looted his village of everything on 8 th
December 1915.
'Ali Qali Khan .—Major in Persian gendarmerie (Officer Commanding at
Borasjun) who with Major Patch ’Ali organized coup at Shiraz (capture of
Bank Manager, etc.). ( 10 th December 1915). He was with Ijlal-ul-Huzur,
Officer Commanding, Gendarmerie at Shiraz, on 29th January 1916.

'Ali Mardan Khan .—In charge of Bairanwand escorting Schonemann and
other Germans. Appointed Governor of Burujird by the Eussians. (31st
March 1916). He was uncle of ’Abbas Khan (of the Paali) whom through an
old feud he murdered about 12th August 1915. His daughter is one of
Salar-ul-Dauleh’s many fiancees.
